Most high end coffee retailers would like you to believe that their coffee is ethically sourced, grown in better conditions, and refined in a strenuous process. All these factors, paired with some absolutely ridiculous tasting notes, is how they convince people to pay astronomical prices for a cup or a bag of coffee.

I must credit them, the businesses doing this the best are telling great stories, stories that people want to believe. We (416 Coffee Co.) could’ve came along and played the game. We could’ve written up fancy tasting notes and charged you an arm and a leg for our coffee. But we didn’t.

We’ve decided to take a page out of the direct to consumer play book and offer our customers a great product at a rock bottom price. There is a catch, you must subscribe. By subscribing we attempt to gain some sort of brand loyalty (although you can cancel whenever you like). This way we can afford to make much less on a single purchase because we hope to have people receiving more coffee each month.

The subscription also benefits the customer. They never have to worry about buying coffee again, they’ll never have to wait in another drive thru line or pay $7 for a latte at a trendy cafe. They’ll also never run out. The subscription model is a win-win.

We are able to sell a premium coffee product for a discount price because we own our entire supply chain. We import, roast, package, and deliver the coffee that our subscribers receive, completely internally. Most roasters work with a third party importer or worse, they don’t actually roast the coffee they simply distribute someone else’s coffee.

Lastly, our rock bottom prices are possible because we are selling directly to the customer, we don’t have any fancy retail locations and our coffee isn’t sitting on a shelf in some bloated super market. Our coffee is exclusively available on our website. This means that we don’t have to pay anyone a percentage when we sell someone a bag.
